The following information describes one
grant and two scholarships available through the International
Student & Scholars Office.
Applications for each of these financial
awards are usually available in early March. Any financial awards
will be applied for the following academic year (in the fall
and spring semesters of the next academic year).
Texas Public Education Grant (TPEG)

Application
The purpose of the Texas Public Education
Grant (TPEG) is to assist students with demonstrated financial
needs. Although nonimmigrant students paying the resident tuition
rate may apply, primary consideration will be given to those
students paying the non-resident tuition rate because of the
limited amount of money available. The grant will not provide
the resident tuition rate. Applications will be available in
March for the following academic year.
What are the Minimum Eligibility Requirements?
Applicants must:

Complete a minimum
of 12 credit hours (9 hours for doctoral) for the last Fall
semester at UH. Concurrent enrollment or excused drops do
not count toward full-time hours.

Complete a minimum
of 12 credit hours (9 hours for doctoral) during the current
Spring semester. Concurrent enrollment or excused drops do
not count toward full-time hours.

Take a minimum of 12
credit hours (9 hours for doctoral) at UH for following academic
year (during the fall and spring semesters in which the financial
award is granted).

Have nonimmigrant status
in the U.S. (e.g., F-1, F-2, J-1, J-2, H-4, A-1, L-2, etc.).

Be in good academic
standing (i.e., not on probation or suspension).

Prove financial need.
Obtain TPEG application
materials at the International Student & Scholar Services
Office (ISSSO). We are located in the Student Service Center,
Room 302. Complete the TPEG application materials and submit
it with the requested documentation.

The deadline for submission
of the TPEG application will be posted in March on our Announcements
page.

When Will I Know If I Have Received
a Grant?
Recipients of the TPEG
will hear from the Scholarships and Financial Aid Office in
May. ISSSO will not have information regarding award notifications.
NOTE: Applications for
the Jack and D'Ann Burke International Scholarship and the Cecelia
Eichenberg Memorial Scholarship are available at the same time
as the TPEG and have the same deadline. These scholarships also
include a GPA requirement. Check the Announcement page during
the first week of March each year for deadlines.
