Since we provide services for over 2,900 international students and scholars, you need to schedule an appointment if you want to see an International Student Counselor.

Situations Needing an Appointment

  • Interested in applying for a change in your VISA status
  • Interested in applying for reinstatement with Department of Homeland Security (DHS)
  • Approval of an application for Curricular Practical Training
  • Approval of an application for Optional Practical Training
  • Interested in applying for Severe Economic Hardship Work Permission
  • Discussion of options when faced with violation of student status
  • Personal problems
  • Cultural adjustment difficulties
  • Advocacy in presenting your case to other departments
  • Any situation where you believe more information or personal assistance is needed

Procedures for Making an Appointment
  • Call our office at (713) 743-5065 or come by the office in person. Ask the Office Assistant for an appointment with the International Student Counselors, Associate Director or Director. Since the Office Assistants maintain the counseling schedule, it is best to ask them for the appointment.
  • You may request to see a specific counselor or simply ask for the next available appointment time.
  • Be prepared to tell the Office Assistant the nature of the appointment. If your reason is confidential, simply state this to the staff.
  • Please phone the office if you are not able to keep your appointment.

What You Need to Bring with You
  • If this will be your first time to our office, please bring ALL of your I-20's or DS-2019's (Formerly IAP-66), your passport and I-94 card.
  • For all subsequent appointments we would still like for you to bring your current I-20 or DS-2019 form (Formerly IAP-66), passport, and I-94 card.
